Like I always say – developing any kind of skill is a continuous effort. You cannot expect miraculous results overnight. Whether you’re working to improve your social skills, communication skills, or your personality, it is important to invest time and energy in the right direction.
There are various steps of developing one’s self and one has to go through all of them. The difference is that while some go over each step quickly, others take their time at each stage. Don’t compare your journey to others, just keep moving forward.
“Habits are the compound interest of self improvement.” James Clear
Here are 4 steps to develop yourself. These steps have yielded proven results. The only condition- be persistent, be obstinate, be committed.
Develop yourself in 4 steps
1. Evaluate yourself
Evaluate and assess yourself that where on the spectrum do you stand. You are your best judge so be honest with yourself. There are so many attributes that are encapsulated in making one’s personality better. Someone might be amazing in communication but not so well in managing time, the other person may be unable to control his emotions and anger which puts a negative impact on his personality.
That’s why it is essential to know what is your goal and what are the hindrances. Once you are clear about that, you can find ways to remove obstacles and polish your personality.
Tip: Write your goals so you know your destination. Once you know your destination, you can take the path that leads to it.
2. Assess your strengths and weaknesses
A SWOT analysis is something that is integral for personality development. Understand your strengths, your weaknesses, and out of these which traits need your immediate attention. All this introspection will help you take that important step towards improving your personality and developing yourself.
For example – I know my strengths are patience & maintaining a balance, and my weakness is short-temper. I’m working on my weaknesses to make sure they don’t hinder my progress. Having a clarity at every step is important. Clarity makes you walk even on a rainy day. Clarity gives you perspective and motivation.
3. Work on yourself
Working on yourself is a choice that all of us need to make. And until that comes from within, nobody can force you. If you want to lose weight but you don’t exercise, you won’t see any results. Same way if you want to be a better communicator and don’t want to put in any efforts, do you expect any magic to happen?

4. Reinforce and reward
You know one of the biggest learning advices that coaches give – always reinforce and reward. Reinforce the good habits everyday, reinforce your learning everyday and reward your achievements. A reward works like a catalyst to keep walking the path.
My mental health is my priority and I work on it everyday. I find small joys in ordinary things and there have been many times I have let go of my ego. All this works and I remain in peace and calmness. I reinforce my habits and learnings and I can see the cumulative effect. My improvement is an everyday process and I am committed to my success. If you ask me my reward- a good night sleep!
You can also join for Chaos to Clarity programme to create and cause the results you intend.
Work on these 4 steps and make a map for yourself with journey, destination and road details. Have a vision for yourself and walk the talk. Without walking you can’t reach and without grit, you can’t achieve.
Dream big and reach for the stars! You can do it – just believe this!
